At our meditation center in Baner, Pune mantra chanting is the most preferred and easiest technique for reaching that silent, meditative state.

I’ve been meditating for a while now. During a session, I was using visualization and I was literally pushed back, by a hand with long fingers, from my conclusion. I was falling in the blackness, falling, falling. It wasn’t until I opened my eyes that I came out if this specific meditation. Scared the heck out of me. Since that time, the specific visualization meditation, I haven’t been able to even get the visual effects. Can you tell me what was it I tapped into?

      Hi Elke,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience here. To be honest I have no idea what you were tapping into. Often meditation experiences are related to the context in which you practice. They can mean very different things in different schools or approaches.

So for example, I was taught meditation in a free awareness school where we learned to ignore all experience. Whatever was happening inside, whether it was peaceful or hectic or wild, the instructions were always the same: let it be as it is and don’t assume anything based on your experience. Just let it come and let it go and hold on to none of it.

So in that context, the experience you described would not inherently mean anything.

But that experience could mean something very different in a purely psychological context and that would be completely valid. So I don’t want you to feel that your experience wasn’t true and valid. It’s just hard to know what it means since I don’t know what your approach to meditation is.

      Does that make sense?
