Lesson 7: Meditate with So Hum Mantra

Let’s practice a 12 minute So Hum mantra meditation together silently.

Make yourself comfortable, listen to my voice and I’ll guide you through the meditation.

  1. Start by finding a comfortable upright seated position.
  2. Softly close your eyes.
  3. Turn your awareness to the gentle inhale and exhale of the breath.
  4. Begin silently repeat the mantra So Hum. You will be in silence for 7 minutes. Repetition of the mantra is more like listening to the mantra rather than repeating it.
  5. Whenever you notice your attention has drifted away from the meditation, kindly come back to the silent repetition of the mantra.
  6. Continue silently repeating the mantra So Hum until you hear the chime.
  7. After you stop thinking the mantra, rest comfortably for a few minutes. Then, slowly resume activity.
Do you notice any changes in the body?

As you establish a regular meditation practice, you may notice a difference in the mind and body. During meditation you are throwing off stress and toxins as the body gets a deep level of rest and restores itself.

What does Namaste mean?

Namaste means “I bow to you.”

The divine in me bows to the divine in you. I honor you for taking the time to experience mantra meditation. It is an incredible privilege and joy to be your guide.

You’ve begun a wonderful journey. I strongly encourage and invite you to meditate again tomorrow.

Meditation should not be regarded as a learning process. It should be regarded as an experiencing process. You should not try to learn from meditation but try to feel it. – Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Up next: Think about how you would like to continue with a regular meditation practice.
