Are thoughts normal during meditation?
Yes, you should expect your mind to be active during meditation. Thoughts are a normal part of the process. They are a sign that stress is being released.
Do not force out thoughts. When you notice you have thoughts, kindly return to the mantra.
What is a thought?
Thoughts during meditation may include sounds in the environment, images, feelings, emotions, colors or other sensations. Treat all of these experiences as you would a thought.
What should I do when I have thoughts during meditation?
When your attention drifts away to thoughts or experiences, kindly notice them and gently bring your attention back to the mantra So Hum.
If I have thoughts during meditation, will I still receive the benefits?
Yes! If you come back to the mantra every time you have a thought, you will receive 100% of the benefits of meditation.
It is possible that ten or more minutes may pass before realizing you were thinking. As soon as you notice your attention has drifted away to thought, kindly come back to the mantra.
If you continue to follow a train of thought after you noticed the thought or experience, you are no longer meditating.
Why should I be kind about having thoughts?
Imagine how different the world would be if each of us made space to notice our thoughts and be kind.
Life is hard enough. There is no forcing, criticism or judgement during meditation. Your thoughts are a perfectly normal part of the process so just kindly notice them, return to the mantra and receive 100% of the benefits of meditation.
