Deepak Chopra Meditation is one of the more popular guided meditations that people ask us about and search for on the web. We did a little research and pulled together some of our favorite guided meditations from Dr. Deepak Chopra, with a short summary and some reflections on each.
One thing to note starting out, I didn’t find any one particular meditation that would qualify as the definitive Deepak Chopra Meditation technique per se. Rather, what I found was a wide variety of guided meditations, which, I believe, reflect this extraordinary man’s rich, deep, and varied experience with meditation.
Deepak Chopra Meditation
So let’s dive in. Also, these are not listed in any particular order of preference but more loosely reflect their popularity according to Youtube and Google.
1. Deepak Chopra Meditation 360p
What You Can Expect
In this Deepak Chopra meditation, Dr. Chopra starts by providing some overarching context about the mind body connection by explaining how everything in your mind has a corollary in the body. Your mind, body, consciousness, relationships, environment, and biology are all woven into a single process. Your heartbeat, and your biochemical composition, these are all related.
Through meditation you can reverse the effect of the more toxic elements in our lives—negative habits, emotions, environment, substances, thoughts, etc. The key, as he describes it, is to experience inner silence so that the body returns to homeostasis and self-repair.
Dr. Chopra then transitions into the guided meditation. He leads us into a breathing exercise and a very simple breath observation exercise. He gives you a simple mantra – “So-hum” – to reflect the in and out breath respectively. This, he tells us, is the natural sound of the breath. Quietly we say this to ourselves and watch the breath and allow ourselves to become totally absorbed in this practice.
I can say that you will definitely have an experience listening to this, especially if you have good headphones. In fact, I highly recommend a good set of headphones for all of Dr. Chopra’s guided meditations.
This composition features rich tones of music, at once ambient and cosmic, and it resonates with the musicality and warmth of Dr. Chopra’s voice and guidance.
This guided meditation is accompanied by a compelling visual light display that goes well with the music if you are into that kind of thing. It’s an ethereal misty essence spinning in quasi-geometrical patterns of light.
One thing to note, Dr. Chopra stops leading the meditation after about 5 min and then the rest is music and visual.
2. Wild Divine – Mindfulness Observation Meditation
What You Can Expect
This is the most advanced of all the Deepak Chopra Meditation videos featured in this post. The focus is on understanding how your spirit is the ever-present witnessing awareness. Dr. Chopra starts with a broad context and tells us how mindfulness training is an ancient technique to develop the capacity to connect with the ever-present witnessing awareness. When we have achieved that connection through our practice, it is akin to waking up your soul and, according to Dr. Chopra, you have reached cosmic consciousness. The witness state transcends both waking and sleeping. The highest form of mindfulness is to witness our self without judgment.
Achieving the witness context is a very advanced spiritual attainment. So what is a simple way to practice mindfulness exercises for those of us who have not yet attained yogic mastery or buddha mind? Easy, we can start simple with mindful eating, walking, thinking, etc.
After this teaching, the video continues with music and visual imagery.
I had to hustle to keep up with this one. It’s great, but also dense. If you are like me, you may need to listen a few times. I enjoyed it, but, like I said, I had to make effort to follow him since he goes deep fast. As long as you are ready for that, no problem. Also, this Deepak Chopra Meditation is really more of a short teaching than a guided meditation, per se. It is, nevertheless, powerful and will give you some deeper context for your practice and some ideas for simple mindfulness practices.
3. Meditation and Stress Reduction
What You Can Expect
This Deepak Chopra Meditation is set in what looks like the red rocks of the Arizona desert. He starts by explaining some of the more recent science and research into the benefits of meditation. He is persuasive and convincing as he explains the self-repairing mechanisms in the body activated by meditation.
After he finishes explaining the benefits of meditation for your mind and body, he slowly guides the yogini, Tara Stiles, into meditation. He slowly encourages her to expand and deepen her consciousness by meditating on the landscape, the sounds, and then the resulting sensations in her body.
In essence, he guides us into watching the breath. As Deepak himself says, it’s a very basic kind of mindful awareness meditation.
I really enjoyed this. Deepak’s voice is melodic, rich, and deep. The recording quality is very good. It’s easy to fall into meditation while he guides Tara Stiles. She also looks like she is in a deep state of absorption.
I didn’t realize it right away, but after Dr. Chopra had been guiding his student into meditation, I found that I was myself meditating and enjoying a buoyant sense of ease and joy. Listening to Dr. Chopra’s voice was both captivating and inspiring, and I felt a wave of delight in Being wash over me while he was speaking. My sense was that he was transmitting his own state of meditative awareness while he was speaking.
In the beginning, I wasn’t so sure about having Tara Stiles in the background, and wondered if it would be distracting to have someone else there. But in the end it was totally fine. She was at ease and so it didn’t distract from Dr. Chopra’s teaching.
4. Deepak Chopra: Centering Meditation
What You Can Expect
This Deepak Chopra Meditation is simple and effective. It provides both a simple guided meditation technique as well as some further context for how to take that meditative energy into the rest of your day. Dr. Chopra gives you a mantra to repeat which you can do anywhere and anytime. Then he encourages you to take advantage of the new perspective and quality of awareness you have generated and see how the world and the events of your life look different to you after performing the mantra.
Short and sweet. Dr. Chopra is passionate and convincing and transmits the power of this simple mantra. Try it!
